Target Mark Downs

So my hubby and I took a couponing class a couple of years ago and the guy who was teaching it told us about a markdown schedule. So I got on tonight and searched for it. We had been trying to remember it forever because it is a handy tool to have. Now this is a generalized schedule and from what I can find Super Targets stick to it more so than a normal Target. But again it is generalized so each store may be a little behind. So I found this over at Slave to Target. This is the general markdown schedule.
http://www.savingfreak.com/deals/target-the-clearance-king/The mark down schedule for Target goes like this:

Monday--kids clothing, infants dept. and electronics (maybe food also)

Tuesday--women's clothing (maybe food also)

Wednesday--men's clothing,garden, health and beauty

Thursday--lingerie, shoes, house wares, sporting goods, luggage, toys

Friday--cosmetics, hardware, auto, domestics, home improvement and jewelry

I also read this over at www.moneysavingqueen.com:
Markdowns are as follows: 1st time they mark down is 30%, 2nd time is 1/2 off original price and the 3rd time is 75% off. Target also says they mark down "every 2 to 3 weeks" when corporate sends them the notice.

Now the seasonal items follow a differnt markdown plan. Again this generalized but a great outline. The blog says that holidays follow a 3-3-2 schedule. I found this info at Vickys Deals.

The first 3 days after the holiday are 50% off.
The next 3 days are 75% off.
The next 2 days are 90%.
After that it goes to salvage.

Since 4th of July is on the same date every year this is the markdown schedule she has found is used:
July 5 = 50% off
July 8 = 75% off
July 10 = 90% off

Halloween same thing, always on the 31st so here is what she has listed:
Nov 1st = 50% off
Nov 4th = 75% off
Nov 7th = 90% off

Apparently Christmas doesn't follow this schedule but the blog says to check the prices frequently but I personally have found that the schedule is similiar.

Sorry, not a very interesting blog post but it is useful or at least I think so. Also a useful bit of info is to ALWAYS check the price because it may not be physically marked down yet but it should change in the system. They try to have them marked down by noon but it will depend on # of employees and of course daily schedules. Hope this is useful, Enjoy!

Pampers Gifts to Grow Program

So this is one of the many rewards programs out there. There are codes on diapers and wipes etc that you buy from Pampers. You enter these codes onto their website and get codes for the things you buy. This is great since you will have to be buying these items anyway. Just go here and sign up for a free account. The rewards are things like picture prints or even toys so go check it out.

Huggies Enjoy the Ride Program

This is a free rewards program offered by Huggies. It is free to join so go here and set up your account. When you buy your diapers, wipes, etc look for the codes and go to the website and enter the codes. You get points to spend on rewards. The rewards can range from picture prints, sweepstake entries, to toys. Since you already will be buying these items anyway you might as well get even more out of it. You will also get emails occasionally with codes in them so it truly is an easy way to earn free items.

Swagbucks

So this isn't directly related to baby deals but it is a way to earn free stuff. Swagbucks! You use it as a search engine instead of Google and you earn points for things. You can then trade in your points for gift cards, prizes, etc.. You can even earn amazon.com gift cards which will help out with buying diapers or other gifts for baby or your family. Friday is the major point day. You search and they reward more points that day than other days. They have other ways to boost points as well. Taking polls, watching videos, offers, and referrals to name a few. So if you are interested in earning some free gift cards head over and sign up. We joined a couple of years ago and have bought gifts with our gift cards to Amazon.

Amazon Mom

So Amazon.com created a "mom" group a little while back and I have loved it. When you sign up for an Amazon Mom account it is free and you receive 15% off. They also have a subscribe and save section which you can sign up to get your items monthly or up to once every 6 months that will save you an additional 15% off. So right off the bat that is 30% off your purchases. Also once you get your item(s) you can cancel the subscribe and save. It is easy, fast, and hassle free. I personally love it. I have gotten a $40 box of huggies for $15 shipped. Great deal. With the Amazon Mom account you get 3 free months of Amazon Prime which means FREE 2 day shipping on many items including diapers and wipes. Also for every $25 you spend in the baby store on Amazon.com you earn an extra month of Prime free. Up to a year for free. The $25 is also BEFORE coupons so on my $15 diaper purchase the original total was $40 so I earned a month free. Also you can find coupons for the baby store quite often in baby magazines which you can also subscribe to for free or very cheap. You can use the coupon codes with your other discounts so it works out to a wonderful deal! So if you haven't already head over and sign up for an Amazon Mom account!

Major money Saver

So as I started writing, the first way to save a substantial amount of money popped into my head. It is somewhat controversial for some but fact of the matter is it truly saves money. So what is it you ask? Breastfeeding versus Formula feeding. I started looking into it tonight and most of the information I found just did the math on the actual formula not the other expenses that go along with either options. So here is what I have found thus far. For starters I nursed my first for a short period of time but then went to formula. With our second he is nursed and only on the rarest occasion does he get a bottle. So I have done both ways. So of course nursing is the best option healthwise, science from everywhere says breastmilk is best, it is specifically created for YOUR baby. It is helpful in a mother's recovery as well as very nutritous to your little one. Yes formula has come a long way from when it first started being used but even formula companies will tell you that breast is best. It is not always easy but it is rewarding and worthwhile, my opinion of course.
Now for the cost. Formula in general in a year cost between $1500-$2000. Now the gap is so large because it depends on several things. It will depend on what brand you choose and how often your baby eats as well as if a special formula is needed. Again this is just for the liquid itself. This cost doesn't add in the jugs of water or the bottles. Since a newborn can eat between 10-12 times a day they suggest at least 12 bottles. So I checked out Playtex Ventaire bottles. They are a popular one and not the cheapest but also not the most exspensive. So a pack of 5 cost around $22 so technically that would be 3 packs so $66 for 15. That doesn't include extra nipples as the baby gets older, but I think a realistic figure for bottles.
Now for breast feeding. Obviously the cost of the liquid is $0 so already that saves a ton. However most people want to buy a pump so these can cost anywhere from $30-$400 just depends on what you prefer. There is also breast pads but you can spend about $10-$20 and get reusable ones or buy disposables which on average cost around $5 for a 60 ct box. I was looking for cheaper options though after we had our second little one and found a wonderful idea. Take pads or panty liners depending on what you need and fold it in half, sticky sides together. Now as a couponer you can get these rather frequently for free or really cheap. Much cheaper option ands works just as well if not better.
You can go into all sorts of costs such as bottle drying racks to nipple cream but these are just the essentials and the cost of those. So here is the information do with it what you will. Breast is best in my opinion but I am aware that it is a Very personal decision for each individual and some just can't physically do it, period. My first seemed to enjoy his food just as much as the second. Make your own decision for whats best for you and your baby, these are just some "fun facts" to have.

Why this blog?

So I am sure everyone is wondering why I am taking the time to write a blog, as if there aren't already plenty of them out there. I started pondering the thought a few weeks ago as I was trying to find the best deals on diapers. I coupon and visit couponing blogs quite often but it sometimes is daunting to muddle through everything to find the baby deals. So I started thinking it would be nice to have a place just dedicated to baby deals and such. Then tonight I was talking to a dear friend and she suggested me creating a page for exactly the same thing. She had some great ideas to. There are plenty of people with babies and people who want babies but think it is an impossible or nearly impossible dream with the cost of everything. While caring for your children or soon to be children is not an easy or cheap task by any means, it is the most rewarding job you can ever have! I hope finding these deals or posting them in one spot can save not only time but money and help people be able to better budget for our bundles of joy. Big & Small.
